Sudan 0 : 2 Ghana | غانا تتفوق على السودان في ارضه

Ghana humble Sudan 2-0 in Omdurman The Black Stars of Ghana on Saturday set one foot into the next World Cup in South Africa when they whipped the Nile Crocodiles of Sudan 2-0 in far away Omdurman. Although the performance of the Ghanaians was not too inspiring on the day, it was enough to get them the three points at stake, giving them 9 maximum points from three matches. Holland-based Matthew Amoah scored a goal in each half to ensure the Black Stars edge past their Sudanese counterparts. Ghana went into the game as favourites having already thrashed the Eagles of Mali 2-0 in Bamako the previous week; and the Sudanese put up little resistance in Saturdays match to the chagrin of the home fans, who started cheering the Black Stars in the dying embers of the encounter. Ghana registered the first goal in the 5th minute when Amoah tapped Prince Tagoes cross in, from close range. The Sudanese, urged on by their fans, took control of the game. They bombarded the goal area of the Ghanaians on a number of occasions but the defensive pair of John Mensah and Eric Addo made certain no harm came Ghanas way. On the flanks, Harrison Afful and Samuel Inkoom, who played in place of suspended John Paintsil, were brilliant on the day. The Sudanese came close on a number of occasions and were denied by the woodwork in the closing stages of the first half. Matthew Amoah scored the second goal in the 51st minute when, after receiving a pass from new sensation Kwadwo Asamoah, he made a 180-degree spin and shot the ball into the net. Ghana could have scored two more goals but Sudanese defender Bashir Ahmed acrobatically cleared two goal-bound balls when Matthew Amoah and then Junior Agogo each thought they had registered another goal for Ghana. Ghana thus leads Group D with 9 points and at the time of going to press, the Benin/ Mali clash was yet to be played.
